It's Closing Time

Today was my last day at volunteering. This was a bitter sweet moment for me. I went into the other English teachers classroom. Since its near the end of the year the class attandance was low. I really didn't have much to do. I say around waiting for a student to need my help and that didn't happen. As time passed by, and class periods changed out I was hoping my luck would change. But it didn't. I had one student ask me my opinion on a grammar question.I was able to show them why I picked one specific answer over the other. When the next question came up they said they didn't need my help anymore but thanked me for helping. When 12:00 rolled around it was time for me to go. I went up to the office and signed out. I looked for Mrs. Mimi so she would sign off my time sheet. She was in the copy room with another associate of the school. He asked me "well how did you like it" and when I responded " I actually liked it a lot" he was like "oh really". I think he said that because most of the students don't respond to the UGA tutors. And even though sometimes I went and volunteered and nobody needed me it was a good feeling to know that I was there for them no matter what. Next year, I will be placed in a high school for my student teaching. I feel like this class has opened my eyes on how to connect with students. Overall, it's made me really look forward to becoming a teacher. Even though some days were harder than other knowing that I made an impact on someone else's lives was an amazing feeling. When I did get the chance to help students and I could see hoe excited they were when they got something right reminded me of my teachers in high school and how they inspired me. This class was an amazing opportunity and I really appreciate the time that I got to spend with the students who attend Classic City High School!
